What is Altitude Sickness?
As you ascend, less oxygen is available. Rapid ascent without acclimatization can lead to AMS.
Common Symptoms
- Headache
- Nausea and loss of appetite
- Fatigue and dizziness
- Difficulty sleeping
Prevention
- Ascend gradually above 3,000m
- Take acclimatization days
- Stay hydrated
- Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills
Golden Rule
If symptoms worsen, descend immediately. Descent is the most effective treatment.
