Altitude Sickness

What is Altitude Sickness?

As you ascend, less oxygen is available. Rapid ascent without acclimatization can lead to AMS.

Common Symptoms

  • Headache
  • Nausea and loss of appetite
  • Fatigue and dizziness
  • Difficulty sleeping

Prevention

  • Ascend gradually above 3,000m
  • Take acclimatization days
  • Stay hydrated
  • Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills

Golden Rule

If symptoms worsen, descend immediately. Descent is the most effective treatment.
