Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, Western Nepal
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is Nepal's only legal hunting reserve and one of the country's most unique wilderness destinations. Located in the western Himalayas across the districts of Baglung, Myagdi, and Rukum, the reserve covers approximately 1,325 square kilometres of pristine alpine forests, rolling grasslands, rugged cliffs, and high mountain valleys beneath the majestic Dhaulagiri massif.
Established in 1987, the reserve is managed by the Government of Nepal to promote sustainable wildlife conservation through a strictly regulated hunting quota system. Hunting is permitted only with official licences, government-approved quotas, and under the supervision of authorized guides and reserve officials, ensuring ethical and responsible wildlife management.
Dhorpatan is renowned for its rich biodiversity and is home to iconic Himalayan wildlife, including the Himalayan Blue Sheep (Bharal), Himalayan Tahr, Wild Boar, Barking Deer, Goral, Himalayan Black Bear, and over 130 species of birds. Beyond hunting, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges, explore remote alpine landscapes, and experience the traditional culture and hospitality of local Magar communities.
Peak Promotion Pvt.
