Everest IMAX Film 1996 stands as one of the most remarkable filmmaking projects ever undertaken on Mount Everest. The expedition combined high-altitude mountaineering with pioneering IMAX filmmaking and captured extraordinary images from the world’s highest mountain.

For Peak Promotion Pvt. Ltd., participation in this historic project remains an important milestone in the company’s long history of supporting international mountaineering, expedition, and film-production projects in Nepal.

Everest IMAX Film – 1996

The Everest IMAX filming expedition took place in 1996 under the leadership of renowned mountaineer and filmmaker David Breashears. The expedition brought together experienced climbers, filmmakers, and high-altitude professionals, including Ed Viesturs, Jamling Tenzing Norgay, Robert Schauer, and other expedition members.

The film was directed by Greg MacGillivray, David Breashears, and Stephen Judson and produced by MacGillivray Freeman Films.

Historic IMAX Filming on Mount Everest

One of the most significant achievements of the expedition was capturing IMAX footage from the summit of Mount Everest on May 23, 1996.

Working at extreme altitude, the filmmaking team faced the same demanding conditions as the mountaineers. Carrying and operating professional filming equipment in such a high-altitude environment required careful planning, logistical coordination, technical expertise, and strong teamwork.

The resulting footage became part of Everest, a major giant-screen documentary that brought the beauty, challenge, and danger of Mount Everest to audiences around the world.

Peak Promotion’s Contribution

Peak Promotion Pvt. Ltd. was involved in the Everest IMAX Film Expedition in 1996, providing local support and expedition-related services in Nepal.

Supporting an international film expedition on Mount Everest requires much more than ordinary travel arrangements. High-altitude filming projects demand specialized knowledge of Nepal’s mountain environment, expedition logistics, transportation, local coordination, and on-ground support.

Peak Promotion’s involvement in the Everest IMAX project reflects the company’s experience in providing reliable support for international film crews, mountaineering expeditions, and high-altitude projects.

A Film That Documented Everest’s History

The 1996 Everest season became one of the most significant and tragic chapters in modern Everest history. The IMAX team was present during this extraordinary period and documented the mountain, its environment, and the experiences of the climbers.

The film featured narration by Liam Neeson and music that included contributions associated with George Harrison.

Although filming took place in 1996, Everest was released in IMAX theaters in March 1998. It subsequently became one of the most successful giant-screen documentary films and introduced millions of viewers to the extraordinary world of Mount Everest.

The Everest IMAX expedition was unique because it brought together:
