MAKALU EXPEDITION

Mount Makalu is the world’s fifth-highest mountain, rising as a dramatic four-sided pyramid on the Nepal–Tibet border near Everest. Known locally as Kumba Karna, it is one of the most remote and technically challenging 8,000-meter peaks in the Himalayas.

Your journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar Airport, followed by a trek through the pristine Arun River valley and the breathtaking Barun Valley—a region rich in waterfalls, wildlife, and untouched Himalayan landscapes.

The expedition follows a carefully planned climbing route with progressive high camps leading toward the summit at 8,460m. Steep faces, sharp ridges, and extreme altitude make Makalu a true test for experienced mountaineers.

First successfully climbed in 1955 by a French expedition led by Jean Franco, Makalu remains one of the most demanding Himalayan peaks due to its technical difficulty and remote location.
