LHOTSE EXPEDITION

The Lhotse Expedition is one of the world’s most rewarding 8,000-meter climbing adventures, offering a true Himalayan expedition experience combined with the challenge of technical high-altitude mountaineering. Standing at 8,516 meters (27,940 ft), Lhotse is the fourth-highest mountain in the world and shares much of its route with Mount Everest before branching toward its own dramatic summit line.

The expedition begins in Kathmandu, where climbers gather for expedition briefings, final gear inspections, and preparation before flying to Lukla Airport, the gateway to the Khumbu region. The trek follows the legendary Khumbu Valley through traditional Sherpa settlements, offering unforgettable mountain scenery and cultural immersion.

Along the approach, climbers pass through Namche Bazaar, the vibrant heart of the Khumbu region, and visit Tengboche Monastery, the region’s spiritual and cultural center. The route then crosses the spectacular Kongma La (5,535m), providing excellent acclimatization and panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Makalu, and surrounding Himalayan giants.

Upon arrival at Base Camp, climbers settle into a fully supported expedition environment with comfortable accommodation, quality meals, and dedicated expedition infrastructure. From here, the ascent progresses through the famous Khumbu Icefall to Camp 1 and Camp 2, followed by acclimatization rotations and technical preparation on the imposing Lhotse Face.

The summit push follows the established route toward the iconic Geneva Spur before diverging toward Lhotse’s defining feature — the Lhotse Couloir, a steep and technical snow-and-ice gully leading directly to the summit ridge. Conditions in the couloir vary depending on seasonal snowfall and weather, making this section the most demanding and rewarding part of the climb.

Lhotse consists of three summits: Lhotse Main (8,516m), the highest and primary expedition objective; Lhotse Middle (8,413m); and Lhotse Shar (8,383m).

The complete expedition generally takes 50–60 days, including trekking, acclimatization rotations, summit attempt, and return to Kathmandu.
