# Nepali Army Personnel Make Historic First Ascent of Mt. Kanchenjunga
**Kanchenjunga Region, Nepal** – In a landmark achievement for Nepal's military mountaineering history, two infantry personnel from the Nepali Army successfully summited Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586m), the world's third-highest mountain, marking the first-ever ascent of the peak by members of the Nepali Army.
Captain Raju Shrestha and Jawan Amit Thapa reached the summit as part of a special expedition that combined high-altitude mountaineering with an environmental cleaning campaign in the Kanchenjunga region.
