23 October, 2013 - Poon Hill

Up at 4am - yikes! Our guide Sherpa, Pemba, kicked our butts this morning! We left the tea house at 4:30 and arrived at the top of Poon Hill at 5:45am. Up the trail (up, up, up!!) from our tea house around 9,100 feet up to 10,100 feet (felt like more than that). We hiked with our 1,000 new best friends as you’ll see from the photos. It seemed like everyone cleared out of the village and was trekking up the hill with us – so many people! With a warm cup of milk coffee/tea bundled up in gear on top of Poon Hill, we waited for the sun to rise and it was quite a sight to see. We saw spectacular clear views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Annapurna One, and “Fish Tail.” The trek was worth it for the views. Amazing!! Unfortunately Starbucks was closed – we didn’t get our quad shot mocha cappuccinos. Then back at the tea house for breakfast. Then we were off again to head to our new destination – about 5 hours trek down the road, but today was definitely easier than yesterday – some ups and downs but not so much constant up. We’re enjoying ourselves and getting worked out! During our walk today we got wonderful views all day – we couldn’t have asked for better weather. To top it off, the view from our tea house tonight is a giant view of Annapurna South and the “Fish Tail.”
