22 October, 2013 - Trek to Ghorepani

Today we went up, up, up, and just when we thought we might be going down some we went up some more! We began at 7am at Hile and were able to get some of the cool morning air before the sunshine hit us. Still feeling the humidity - it was a sweaty day! Today’s hike was approx. 3500 stone steps up to our tea break village (according to the guidebooks) – our only saving grace was the altitude (not that high) otherwise we got worked and will be sleeping well tonight. Bestari, bestari (slow) – just went slow and paced ourselves. We got lovely views of South Annapurna and the companion peak to the East – wonderful to see!! In the afternoon we walked through some jungle and crossed the river twice over raging waters and waterfalls. We arrived at Ghorepani at 2:30. Started this morning at around 4,700 feet and ended tonight at 9,100 feet – we climbed 4,400 feet today. We had a great day – everyone is feeling well, and we’ll be up at 4am tomorrow to trek up to the top of Poon Hill and watch the sunrise.

Side note: we miss yaks!!!! Our trail had been full of mules going up and down, but unfortunately due to the altitude and climate, yaks can’t handle this zone. We miss them.
