November 13, 2012 - Kala Patthar 5650 meters above sea level

Early wakeup call at 04.15! Today we were aiming for Kala Patthar 5650 meters above sea level. Kala Patthar is a lower shoulder on mountain Pumori. We started out in the dark with our headlights on. The ground was covered with a thin layer of crisp white snow and the stars were shining from a pitch black Himalayan sky. The setting was perfect.  After approximately one hour we got our first reward. The sun started to light up all the peaks around us. Amazingly beautiful! It gave us all some new strength, so did the hot mango our caring guide Tendi had brought to give us during the climb. After two hours of struggle in the cold morning we reached the peak and the view was absolutely worth all the effort that was made to get there. Pumori, Lingtren, Kumbutse, Loh la, Mount Everest, Nuptse and in the far distance Ama Dablam and Thamserku getting lit up by the sun. We all got some real nice pictures from the view and from the peak of Kala Patthar.

Anki and Jette decided not to join the clime due to their earlier problem with the altitude. On the other hand they got a cozy lazy morning and nice walk down to Lobuche. After our descent we got breakfast in Gorak Shep and continued trekking to Lobuche, where we met up with the others to join lunch. After lunch we continued our trek to reach our goal of today, Periche. Now we’re sitting in the dining room, freshly showered, extremely tired and happy after today’s experiences and a nice pizza dinner.
