Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters (4,600 ft). The city is the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas. There are many places of historic and religiously value. Coupled with a cultural guide, we visit during the day, the Buddhist temple Swoyambuhunath (monkey temple) situated on a lush hillside above Kathmandu. We continue to Patan Durbar Square whose art, incense scents and ancient architecture provides a special atmosphere to the place. We also visit Pashupatinath Hindu temple, where the city's Hindus take a last farewell of their relatives.
The history of Kathmandu valley begins from the Swoyambhunath temple The literal meaning of Swoyambhu is ‘Self existence one’. Swayambhunath Temple is also called a Monkey Temple and it lies in the West part of Kathmandu valley. In the Swayambhu Temple you can see varieties of Buddhist Stupas and Temples, which are the typical architecture. In the temple there are many holy monkeys, that’s why also it is known as Monkey Temple.
Patan Durbar Square:
Patan city is also called Lalitpur, which means the ‘city of fine arts.’ Patan lies in the Southern part of Kathmandu and it is the second largest town in the valley. Patan Durbar Square consists many of Temples like; Krishna Mandir, Bhimsen Temple, Vishunath Temple, Rato Machhendranath Temple and other many Temples. The Kathmandu Durbar Square comes under another world heritage sites of Nepal popular for excellent curio materials, ancient sculpture. You can also observe live painting over there.
Buddhanath lies in the eastern side of Kathmandu and it was probably build in the 14th century after the mughal invasions. We can see largest Buddha’s Stupa of the Nepal as well as World and holiest of all Buddhist temples outside of Tibet. It is the main point of Tibetan culture inside of Kathmandu where all major holy Buddhist events and festivals are celebrated. One of the notable things to see at Bauddhanath is the strong presence of Mountain Sherpas and Tibetans.
The word Pashupatinath is derived from three Sanskrit words Pashu means organism, Pati means protector and nath means lord. Pashupatinath Temple is the incarnation of Hindu lord Shiva and it is stand on the banks of Bagmati river. God shiva is the main god of Hindu religion and also known as the male counterpart of Shakti means power. Mainly in the occasion of Maha Shiva ratri many people from country and out of the country come for Worshipping lord Shiva. In the occasion of Teej Nepali women come Pashupatinath for Worship. We can see different types of Statue of lord Shiva and other Hindu religions god. In the bank of Bagmati river of Pashupatinath cremation process is held as per Hindu culture.
