April 4 - April 5, 2015 - Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp

Sagarmatha, Chomolungam, Mt. Everest, whichever name you choose to call her we were privileged to see her great southern face twice today, once from Kala Patar, and again on the trek to Everest Base Camp. As our strong but tired legs carried us closer and closer our excitement grew to almost unbearable levels. Not only would we soon be at base camp, but we would  also get to rejoin our new friends who forged on days earlier to set up Everest ER, a non-profit emergency medicine clinic servicing sherpas, trekkers, and climbers currently being staffed by admirable American, Australian and Kiwi Physicians at an elevation of 17,600 ft (5364m). Coming upon the welcome rock and seeing the small city of tents made everything real and I actually cheered, laughed and cried for joy while I tried to find words for indescribable emotions. No amount of research, second-hard accounts or questioning of our group leader can prepare you for the feeling you get on your first trip to Everest Base Camp. I’m so proud to have shared this journey with such an amazing team of people. Thank you to everyone for making this trek unforgettable!
