What a glorious day!
After an evening of pouring rain in Namche we woke up to a glorious sunshine and the bluest sky. The view from the Tea House alone would have been enough… but our good karma was yet to get even better.
The acclimatization hike up to the Everest Viewpoint was fun and we were all very excited with the perspective of the first glimpse of Mount Everest. And there it was – majestic, sitting calmly above all the other mountains, covered with fresh snow, not the slightest puff of air on its summit (not even the usual snow spray blowing from left to right). We were crazy happy, everyone screaming and some people “hi-fiving” in pure joy!
After a few minutes we moved on to Khumjung for lunch and a quick visit to the Monastery, with its amazing and very believable Yeti skull. And from there back to Namche, with a few stops for group pictures and lots of joking around.
Before dinner Luanne gave us a lecture on the most common orthopedic lesions in remote locations – great slides and soundtrack!
This was certainly a special day for all of us... And it’s off to Tengboche tomorrow!
