Musa arrived with excitement again last night in the Himalayan Hotel in Pheriche. He visited several rooms throughout the night, rummaging through trekkers' bags in search for trail mix or possibly the waning Starburst Jelly Beans. We started the morning early with yet another yummy breakfast before setting out for a day that truly defined the meaning of a term we have coined "Sherpa Flat" when the guides advise that the next section of the trail is "flat" yet involves hours of up and/or down that any vehicle would have difficulty managing. We got a break in front of the "STD Bakery" where we thought about stopping for some Chlamydia cupcakes but time was of the essence and we continued on the trail. No matter how hard we tried to bargain with our guides today, neither the time to destination nor the incline of the hill decreased. For payment we received some beautiful views and gorgeous weather. This payment was worth every bit of the difficulty of the trail.
Hot ginger lemon tea served by the yak dung stove welcomed us to Khumjung, our lodging for the night. A hot shower was also a highlight – the first shower in 9 days for many in the group. Power is not consistent and we are blaming the film crew staying in a lodge nearby for stealing the town's power – whether that is true or not hey . A card game by candlelight before bed is a great way to end a marvelous day.
