Magic! Today we saw Everest. We woke to clear blue skies and started off for Tengboche. But, instead of hiking directly, we took a longer route toward Pangboche, which afforded us views of the Gokyo Valley, Ama Dablam, and the Everest range. As usual, the trek consisted of lots of ups and downs. This trail was mostly used by the people of the region and we saw few fellow travellers. Each step brought us closer and closer to Ama Dablam and other mountain ranges. Just before Pangboche, we rounded a turn and there was Everest and what looks like a taller neighbor, Lotse. Jack was so pleased by the view that he spontaneously hugged Marsha and

said, “Thank you for sharing your dream with me.” Words cannot express the majesty of what we were seeing. We walked for over 4 hours before stopping for lunch. Some of the time was spent shooting photos!

After lunch we needed to head downhill in order to cross the river at the Pangboche Bridge, which traverses rapids and is situated next to a waterfall. Of course in Nepal going down means that you have to go up. The next hour was spent trudging uphill past small forms and through enormous rhododendron forests. We arrived, tired, to Tengboche monastery but were greeted by a sunset that lit up the faces of the mountains. A perfect ending to a special day.
