Pemba's and Kame's pads
Today was a nice rest day and respite from the icefall. I spent my first part of my morning having breakfast in the cook tent and chatting with the sherpas. Each time I chat with them I learn more about the culture and the region. For those of you having the bug to visit the Himalaya, there to two annual festivals that take place in the region. The first one is a 3-day affair on June 2nd in Thame and this second is the bigger of the two and is a week celebration that takes place in Tengboche in October. My advice to you is to book your accommodations now because the sherpas told me that every room for miles away will sell out.
The rest of the morning I went to went to the helipad with Eric and Torrey to watch the emergency evac of a climber that had a heart attack. Go to www.everester.org for the details.
The rest of the day I spent working on my caloric intake based on the doc’s advice. Eric and I estimated it to be at about 6000+ calories for the day. The docs have been a great source of assistance and advice. We have almost daily discussions on my strategy and so far they have given full consent on everything.
Today is also a rest day for Pemba and Kame, so they renovated their tent site. Pemba's pad is decked out with stairs and other accessories.
