Scribe for the day – Dave McCormick
Our hike for the day, from Sheree Kharka to Leder included quite possibly the most spectacular few hours on the trail that we've experienced on the trek so far.
Shortly after leaving our lodgings for the night, we took a seasonal trail that climbed gradually through dry, bushy hillsides, high above the river valley far below. The backdrop to our right was the whole Annapurna range almost as far as the eye could see and in the clear morning light the scenery was all one could ask for. We passed a summer "settlement" with nearby pastures where a few yaks still grazed. I wondered if they appreciated the view they were treated to every day.
Two or three hours of this, and after a steep descent to the river coming from the Thorung area, we crossed over and rejoined the Annapurna Trail.
A short time walking up the trail and we arrived at Leder just after lunch. The Annapurnas are already in our rear distance as we look to the next challenge, the crossing of the Thorung La at 5400 m.
