27th April, 2012 - acclimatization routine up to Camp III

Team started for a four day acclimatization routine up to Camp III. Team started at 4.00 AM from base camp. Venturing through Khumbu Ice Fall team reached to the Camp I at around 9.15am. After a short rest at Camp I team resumed climb to Camp II. Just after the team started for Camp II, a huge hanging glacier came down from the Nuptse North face. Our team managed to safeguard themselves from the avalanche. The avalanche was the largest avalanche in the valley since 2005. The valley was full of powder snow and high winds. It destroyed about thirty tents at Camp I and blew a Sherpa cook from another team into a crevasse. He was then rescued by a team of Sherpa and was evacuated from the mountain on the same day by helicopter.

This was a horrifying experience for everyone on the mountain and at the base camp. Team then slowly moved towards camp II. The entire team reached to Camp II safely at 3.00PM. It was a very stressful day mentally as well as physically.

Camp II is a windy place, temperature at night drops to -20 degrees.
