Welcome reception at base camp

10th April 2012 - Trek to Gorakshep and Everest Base Camp

We left Lobuche (5000m.) in the morning, after our usual breakfast of champions.  It was cool and cloudy. We reached Gorakshep around 11:30 A.M. and had lunch there. Early afternoon, it started snowing when we headed towards Everest Base Camp (5300m.) . We reached there at about 4:00 P.M. It was cloudy and still snowing.  Due to to the weather conditions, we did not go to Kalapathar. Everest Base Camp is spread to an enormous area, which is more than we expected.  As we arrived to the central area, we were greeted with a warm welcome by the WMS crew. We were invited to the dining tent, where we were offered tea.  After a brief reception, we were taken to our personal tents.  After unpacking our stuff, we got back to the dining tent for the lecture which started at 5:30. The lecture was about frostbites and was given by Dr. Scott McIntosh.  After the lecture, we had dinner at 7:00

P.M. Tomorrow, we will have rest day and have tour of the Base camp.  We will also, see the Photographic exhibit of David Breashears on receding glaciers of the Himalayas.
