At the gate way to Mt. Everest

26th March , 2012 - We began our expedition from Lukla after the Peak-promotion Lukla staff presented us with Khada scarves & wished us good luck

After having been up half the night (some of us all night) packing, we finally got our gear together and headed out to the airport. After the fastest check-in and boarding procedure ever, we were lucky enough to actually catch the first flight out to Lukla, as planned. Unfortunately, our entire luggage did not. Over the course of the morning, as we walked around Lukla, taking pictures of the airstrip, having our Yak and Yeti packed breakfast boxes and buying indispensible Everest literature for the trip, the left items arrived one by one on the following flights. Unfortunately, one bag (Husein’s Island Peak and trekking bag) did not arrive as the afternoon flights were cancelled. It will hopefully arrived on the first flight tomorrow, together with Pemba Rita. Once we left Lukla, we were on a stony trail to Phakding, together with jopke with heavy loads, porters with seemingly even heavier loads and tourists with… pathetically light loads. The hike was short and easy, the weather held up and the views were magnificent. When we finally crossed the Dudh Koshi (Milk River) to our tea house, the Sunrise Lodge, all our luggage, except the bag still in Kathmandu, had magically arrived before us.
