Group Picture on the way back to Periche

The day started by two of us dragging ourselves out of the sleeping bags in the early morning to see the sun rise beyond the summit of Mount Everest. It was freezig. The climb up the hill was exhausting but beautiful views awaited us. And up there our superb guide AD served us some welcomed tea.
Back at the lodge it was breakfast time for all of us, preparing for our first day of descending. With the goal of Mount Everest in mind the day before, all of us had forgotten the massive, heavy rock paradise covering the Khumbu Glacier and leading our way the first hour out from Gorak Shep.
Walking on passing for us now known villages, we felt happy and energized leaving the cold, thin and dry air. But at the same time there were also a certain sadness as the mountains of the Lobuche Valley starting to disappear behind us. These beautiful and majestic, but also brutal mountains. Will always be in our hearts.
After a good day's trek, we reached Pheriche in the afternoon. When we arrived here four days ago, many of us got aware of the early symptoms of the high altitude. Now we were instead relieved, feeling energized after descending approx 1000m! Funny how things can change.
And finally the big happening of today – Sami is turning 40! We have celebrated with great Pollys and Sprite.
