On the day of November 7,2017 Everest rudely awoke us this morning with an extraordinary show. We hadn't realized that our small cold room looked directly out at Everest and Lhotse, and the sun rising onto these mountains was really beautiful. Before leaving we visited the monastery - all calm now after the festivities the day before. The gompa was beautiful inside with polished floorboards, richly decorated walls and an impressive guru reponchhe (lord buddha). Our trek today back to Namche meant descending and crossing the Dudh Gosi (river), so we set off at about 9am amidst hoards of rampaging trekkers who seemed to want to get down to the river as quickly as possible, ignoring the views. Again we were so happy we didn't go to Everest Base Camp. Once we had climbed the other side of the valley ngwang Phuri Sherpa pointed out the Gokyo trail we had started a week ago as it climbed what looked like a sheer mountain face - did we really do that? Returning to Namche felt warm, safe, and luxurious after our adventure, but we're still at 3440m, higher than the Inca Trail. A warm shower and a coffee was more than welcome, and necessary!
