We had a great final day of trekking in the Langtang Valley. The weather remained perfect for us with sunny skies above and the temperature rising as we came further down the valley. We hiked about 8 miles from Lama Hotel to Syarabu Besi and returned to the familiar confines (and wifi) of the Hotel Peaceful. We hoisted our first beers of the week with our Sherpa friends and thought back on the events of the week.
We had a great lunch in Tiwari with some of the freshest bread and vegetables and entertainment from the owner's children.
The whole trip has shown us the effect of the earthquake, both in terms of the devastation and in the resilience of the people. Lhakpa at the Dorje Bakery In Kyanjan Gompa remains an inspiration. His apple pie, carrot cake, and chocolate cake were tremendous and his outlook on life inspiring.
Many thanks to our Sherpas – Ngwang Phuri, Pemba Nuri, and Kunga, and to our porters – Lhakpa, Mingma, and Kunga. And best of luck of luck to Kunga Sherpa as he takes his post as teacher at the Chyanga school in a couple of weeks!
