5th April , 2012 - Namche to Tengboche

We took off from Namche this morning and saw another set of spectacular mountain views on our way out of the town. It turned out to be a beautiful day, not too cool and very few clouds. We hit another Everest viewpoint along the trail and took tons of pictures. Another fellow trekker (not in our group) had a close call with one of our yaks, where she was running in front of it, slipped, and narrowly missed getting trampled. Don’t get in the way of the yaks.

We descended into a small town and had a relaxing lunch and a very interesting talk on ophthalmologic emergencies in the field. We learned how to put together a mountain ophthalmology first aid kit, how to use a slit lamp, and a personal tutorial on how to look for foreign bodies in the eye using only a paper clip and a light.

After lunch, things turned vertical. We climbed 1,800 feet in 2 hours, which would have been fine, except we did it right after lunch.

After arriving into Tengboche, we visited the monastery here, which is the oldest in this region, per our guide. It burned in 1999 due to electrical fault, and was recently rebuilt. We visited the prayer room, saw a few monks, and spun a few prayer wheels. Apparently for only 300 rupees you can stay in the monastery for the night.

We checked into our lodge, and are set to leave for Periche in the morning. We are hoping for good weather in the morning, because we should be able to see wonderful views of Everest, Nupste, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse from our rooms.
