3rd April , 2012 - Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

We awoke under beautiful skies at the Sundail Lodge in Phakding.  Our hike to Namche Bazaar would be 3000 ft higher in elevation, so we prepared ourselves for a long hike.  Peter, watching his altimeter watch, said that the barometric pressure was rising and thus it would be an amazingly clear day.  About 30 minutes into the hike it started to drizzle.  We thought that the skies would clear, and Nancy said during our lunch stop “I think I see some blue!”  Then the lightning began.  But the rain continued for most of the day.  Spirits were high though, and the chilly temperatures didn’t touch us. Somehow, Dennis got slightly ahead of the rest of the group and mistakenly thought that he was behind everyone.  Frantically, he raced ahead while the rest of us were totally impressed by his 60 year old legs.  As he was wandering around Namche, Tendi finally caught up to him.  Mid afternoon we arrived in the beautiful village of Namche and the nice Khumbu Lodge.  A few of us enjoyed hot showers before arriving in the common area.  Scott gave a talk on mountain medical kits, and a few of the group laid out on the benches to rest before dinner.  Nancy accidentally locked her husband in the hotel room.  (Riley did this to her father last night.  We need some instruction on Nepali doors).  The rest day tomorrow will be welcome.
