17th April, 2012 - Everest Base Camp

Well, after 13 days of trekking with many ups and downs, earlier today we arrived at Mt. Everest Base Camp. I am told the entire trip is in excess of 85 kilometers and the total elevation gain is over 8500 vertical feet. There is no other way to describe this place other then, simply spectacular! It is not only the beauty of this place and the unbelievable hardy people which inhabit it, but the spectacular mountains that surround us everywhere. Our Sherpa’s have been just fantastic in every respect, there is no other way to describe the service they provide other than, simply awesome! The biggest event of the day, other than our arrival in this space has been our evening meal. At 17,500’ we are sitting in the mess tent, with Dick and Terry Morse and a new female friend here to climb Mt. Everest, having the best meal since we arrived in Kathmandu almost 2 weeks ago. I have been told that for many, trekking to Mt. Everest is life changing experience, I would say personally that it ranks right up there with the things I have done in the past. Stay tuned as we continue this wonderful experience.
