6th April , 2012 - Phakding to Namche bazaar

After a night with heavy rain and thunderstorm we woke up early to begin the 6 hour trek to Namche Bazar at an altitude of 3400 m. At the beginning it was an easy trek along the river and through forests of pine trees. We passed small villages with blossoming rhododendron trees and cherry blossom.

After lunch we began the climbing of 600 vertical meters.  It was a climb on stone steps and hanging bridges. Leaving the creek behind, and the greenery of the valley, we finely arrived at Namche bazaar, the Sherpa “capital”. The city has been growing with the tourism, and a lot of lodges and hotels are now clustered on what earlier were terraced potato fields. Tomorrow we will go for a day trek to Khumjung and hopefully get our first glimpse of the Everest massive.
