14th May, 2013 - Trek to Pheriche

Tengboche 5.30AM
We all got up with the sight of beautiful Mt. Everest in front of our eyes. The picturesque Mountain View hotel provided us with an energizing and motivating view which helped us to walk to our destination easily.

6.00AM
While having bed tea and watching the Everest from the bedroom I was eagerly waiting for the sunrise. Within minutes the sun rose from behind the Amadablam Peak. I could manage to capture one of the best photos of the EBC trek. This was the moment I will cherish for a lifetime. The Everest, Lhotse, Amadabalam, Taboche were all lit up with a golden glow and the clouds sailing below them.

8.00AM
We started our journey to Pheriche with the visit to the holy monastery. The group clicked a lot of pictures with The Everest and headed for the 8hr long journey.

11.00AM
Till now the walk was very pleasant, trees with beautiful flowers on both sides of the road and a lot of greenery. But after some time the greenery started to diminish. The green line which separated the forest land and the barren terrain of the mountains was clearly visible. There was a hint of oxygen drop which could be felt by many.

12.30PM
We haulted at Somare for lunch and the team members looked in a healthy condition. The interesting thing about the owner of the hotel was that she had participated in the Everest marathon.

2.00PM
The walk was getting exhaustive with Satish and me suffering from a mild headache. The short bushes started appearing and the big trees had almost disappeared.

4.30PM
We reached our destination comfortably. Pheriche is the most beautiful village that I have visited in Nepal. It’s small with 10-15 buildings and almost negligible human life. The climate here is remarkable with clouds flowing through the streets. The stay at Himalayan Lodge is comfortable with the heated restaurant and amazing people around.

9.00PM
Looking forward for tomorrows acclimatization trek uphill to about 5100m.
