16th May 2013 – Lobuche to Gorakhshep

After yesterdays exhausting climb we had decided that we would start a bit late. Also Gorakhshep not being too far off there was no hurry. We started at 8.00 am. The weather was not good today with overcast conditions. Luckily there was no wind today. Lhotse and Everest Summit of Giripremi was to be attempted today and we were all excited to know about the outcome. For the last two days there was no mobile range and as such we were unable to contact the Everest Base Camp.

About an hour into the walk and we entered “Khumbu Glacier”. The route now was full of loose rock and moraine and we had to be very cautious. It was also not simple to walk on this terrain. Also the route was full of ups and downs and we were all tired especially due to yesterday’s adventure. In the meanwhile we received the news that Ashish Mane of Giripremi had successfully scaled Lhotse Peak. The team for Everest however had not made the attempt due to bad weather (Wind of about 100 Km per hour reported up there).

Reached Gorakhshep (5165 meters) at 11.15 am. The view of the glacier and Ice fall from here is simply fabulous. The rest of the day we spent relaxing and planning for tomorrow. The team will be split into two tomorrow. One group will attempt the Kala Patthar Peak early morning tomorrow and then proceed to Everest Base Camp. The other group will go directly to the Base Camp.

It is very cold here in Gorakhshep and the team going to Kala Patthar will start at 4 am so it is going to be a test of our endurance. In the meanwhile news is that Giripremi team is making an attempt to Summit Mount Everest early morning tomorrow.
