The views from the hotel in Tengboche were spectacular this morning. The mist of the previous evening had cleared and the peaks were sharply etched against the blue sky. The bong of the drum calling the Monks to morning prayers rang clear across the field as a line of trekkers waited to attend Puja.
It seemed like hundreds of trekkers and porters crowded the trail today. Karina was feeling the effects of a G.I. bug but maintained a stoic attitude in what was no doubt a long day for her. She, Marcelo, Scott, Pemba and Phula headed up to visit Lama Geshe en route. Khunga, Obie and Anna continued to Pangboche to visit Yangzing (who Anna met on an expedition ten years ago) and have Yangzing meet Obie.
We re-grouped again at Somare for lunch. From there, it was not far to Pheriche but the mist had rolled in again, surreal and atmospheric. Obie especially, cruised into Pheriche at 4200 metres in great spirits and energy. He and Khunga have developed a good system where Khunga carries Obie for a while, then has him walk for 5-10 minutes then carries him again. We (so far) manage to make good time but also have Obie acclimatize effectively.
Tomorrow is another acclimatization day but we will try to go for a hike higher to help the process. On the 10th, we ascend another 700 meters to reach Lobuche so taking care of ourselves is essential at this point.
