8th April, 2013 - Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

Today was the day when the reel adventure begun. After two nice days in Kathmandu and some briefings we were excited to start the hike. A little bit tired we were picked up at the hotel at 05:00 am and were transported to the airport, and soon we took off for the relatively short flight and landed in Lukla after approximately 25 min. The small plane hosted our group of 10 persons, two germens, the captain and his co-pilot and a quite stewardess and yes, we succeed to land on the short airstrip of Lukla.  After a new briefing and some tea we set of and started the walk. We have had lovely whether today and it was quite hot even if the height makes it a little bit cooler. From Lukla we were descending slightly from 2800 m down to the first night stop at 2650 m after about 4 h. We have already seen breathtaking views and the landscape is beautiful, even if it is a little bit smoggy. On the trail which often is up and down we are meeting Japkyo (mix of cow and yak), cows and other trekkers. On the picture we walk by the Mani stones which are written by Buddhists and are about the Buddhist religion. We ended the day with a dinner in the teahouse. Tomorrow the steep walk up to famous Namche Bazaar waits for us. So now it’s time to get some sleep!

All the best
