Lobuche to Gorak shep, and elevation gain of 240 meters. We departed from Lobuche, after a night of snow, for Gorak shep. Our goal today was to climb additional 375 meters to Kalapattar, then return to Gorak shep to spend the night. Kalapattar truly lived up to its reputation as one of the finest “photo” spots in Khumbu. The view of Khumbu glacier, Everest Base camp, Nuptse and Lhola is spectacular provided if you arrive before afternoon clouds!
After descending from Kalapattar, we enjoyed our afternoon tea and well-deserved nap. Later, just before dinner, we joined our Sherpa friends around the “dung” fire; a wood burning stove in the middle of the lodge. It was special moment.
