Today was the day of the mythical Yeti (for some strange reason, Mary believes that Chewbacca is a Yeti). But first, we slept in a bit and enjoyed the morning in Pokara. We had breakfast at our new favorite place, Lake View Restaurant, where we had lunch the day prior. We then did a bit of shopping for trinkets (admittedly so), prior to meeting Nwang to head to the airport.
Pokhara airport is small but well run. Despite the flight being late due to delayed arrival of the aircraft, Yeti Airlines did a quick turnaround with refueling, such that we were quickly on our way for the 25 minute flight back to Kathmandu…7.5 hours shorter than our drive 2 weeks ago! Delta could learn a few things from the efficiency of Yeti…25 min flight with peanuts, coke, and caramel candy service by one flight attendant…while doing the safety briefing. Plus, no luggage lost or damaged with zero waiting time at baggage claim (even though it was open air in the half-built domestic terminal). Amazing.
Once back in Kathmandu, we went to the Yak & Yeti Hotel, one of the top in the city. We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon on the grounds. For our farewell dinner, we were treated to traditional Nepali food and culture at the Nepali Chulo, with Wongchu, Jiwan, and Nwang. The top performer was a peacock…along with other dancers and musicians…and the Dal Bhat (of course). Good time had by all, and a wonderful conclusion to this adventure in Nepal!
Tomorrow we plan to explore Durbar Square and city sights before taking our seats on Qatar Airlines to make our way home. As the Nepalis promote, we have "come as a guest, leave as a friend"…
