October 4, 2014 - Trek to Annapurna Base Camp

The day of our summit!!

We woke early in Himalaya after spending a lovely night with our roommate Pierre from Argentina via South Africa. An early start to the day allowed us to be through Durali by 8:30 am and to Machhupachhare Base Camp (MBC) by 10:30 am. We were rewarded with clear blue skies and amazing views of Machhupachhare and Annapurna III on our climb to MBC.

After refueling with fried rice at MBC, we started the last leg of our ascent to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and the high point of our trek, 4130 meters! The clouds did roll in, as has become predictable in late morning, however we witnessed a surprise unveiling of 360 degrees of mountains at 5:30 pm (including our first view of Annapurna I), causing everyone to vacate the tea houses with cameras. The mountains changed colors with the setting sun, predicting a beautiful sunrise and clear morning to greet us tomorrow. The view is more spectacular than anticipated, it is awe inspiring to be surrounded by seven, and eight thousand meter peaks.

After 45 miles and topping out at 13,500+ feet, we are feeling strong and could not be happier. Tomorrow we begin our way back down after days of serious climbs!
