7 - October, 2014 -Trek 6 km to Thorang Pedi (4450 meters)
Stomach is feeling better this morning on the initial climb to Letdar (but, lucky me, the arrythmia has flared up). There are lots of trekkers now. Today's route is similar to yesterday's venturing further up the valley. Not quite as colorful as we climb above treeline but we saw another large herd of blue sheep. Sofie and Alex had scampered off early but I caught the Danes (Celia and Trina) and finally shared a walk with them and then bid them adieu. They were headed 400 meters higher than Thorang Pedi to High Camp so they would be closer to the pass tomorrow for summit day. They remind me of Bonnie back in university and her trip to Asia with her friend Pam. I had lunch with Sofie and Alex then we headed up to High Camp as well for acclimatization. From a high point above the Camp we had an expansive view of Purkung Himal and the Chulu range to the north as well as Gangapurna. We joked about sending word to our guides that we were staying put and please bring up our gear. The trek so far has been quite gentle in terms of elevation gain; on Kilimanjaro we took 3 days to get to the same 4450 meter altitude of Thorang Pedi which has taken us 9 days. And we're not even high right now; probably the same elevation as Mount Whitney in the US.
