Today is the fifth day of our trek. We started even earlier than on previous days as we had a lot of distance to cover to get to MBC – Machhapuchhre base camp. We were all excited and a bit anxious as we will be gaining over 1000 meters altitude today and mountain sickness is a concern. There was no cause for concern as we are fortunate to have experienced leaders guiding us, and we also have a doctor in our group. What more can one ask for.
The scenery along the way from Doban to Deurali was superb, and there were lot of photo opportunities along the way. Not only did we see glorious snow clad peaks, but we also had our first glimpse of glaciers. It was the coldest day so far.
After the customary lunch of delicious daal-bhaat and tarkari at Deurali, we started off for MBC. We lost our way and the smiling Sherpa team put us back on track, making a makeshift bridge from stones to help us across the river stream. The Sherpas are such a jolly bunch – making our trek so enjoyable and worry free.
After a three hour trek from Deurali – three hours that seemed like an eternity, we caught a glimpse of our lodge – the Fish tail lodge. The views from the lodge are spectacular. We will call it a night early today – as tomorrow we have to make a very early start – destination ABC.
